To carry out Mayor Hu’s platform to form a Hakka Orchestra to promote Hakka culture and Hakka music, the Council for Hakka Affairs of Taichung City has formed a 70-member Chinese Orchestra, the first of its kind among all the Hakka-related government agencies. The Orchestra is scheduled to make its debut at 19:30 on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the concert hall of Huludun Cultural Center. All our citizens are welcomed to enjoy the performance. Admission is free. You need only to request a ticket at the site.
Lai Zhao-hui, chairman of Council for Hakka Affairs, pointed out that this first dedicated Hakka Orchestra in Taiwan is formed to fulfill one of the political views of Mayor Hu to promote Hakka culture and Hakka music; the Orchestra has started practice since May 21, 2011 and recruited new members in October 2011; currently, it has 70 musicians under the regular training of well-known maestro Chen Ru-qi; to serve as cultural and musical ambassador for Council for Hakka Affairs of Taichung City, the Orchestra will provide free performances to any invitation, as long as the organizer pays for the transportation of musical instruments and personnel and the meals for the orchestra members.
Chairman Lai said that this Hakka orchestra will continue to host regular concerts. He hoped that our citizens will support not only the orchestra's performances but also all the Hakka cultural activities organized by Council for Hakka Affairs of Taichung City Government
