Education in Taichung

Taichung boasts a highly-educated population, thanks to one of the nation's highest per capita number of schools and institutions of higher education. Taichung city has 14 universities, two medical universities, one nursing college, three colleges, 1 junior college, nine vocational schools, three institutes of technology, 37 public and private high schools, 70 junior high schools, four special education schools, 234 primary schools, and 259 kindergartens. It also has two international (American) schools and a growing number of bilingual (Chinese-English) education schools. This means that 99.94% of the youth population is educated, giving the city a high-quality work force. The city government has also appointed professionals to compile the teaching materials of local culture for the use of primary school courses, so that younger generations are able to study and appreciate traditional local culture.
