The 2005 Taichung Cultural Season: Colorful City Arts Festival~ Sunshine City Beautiful New Vision Series Activities commenced with the opening ceremony on September 2 at the Cultural Affairs Bureau. Taichung city mayor Jason Hu, painter Zhong Jun-Jie, Chen Bing-Chen and two French artists were there for the opening ceremony. Taichung city’s Cultural Affairs Bureau hopes to bring lots of color to the skies of central Taiwan through this series of activities.

During the ceremony, Mayor Hu expressed that these series of activities have become more and more international each year, and he thanks everyone for their support. Mayor Hu also expressed that in 2001, the average number of times a citizen attends an artistic activity is 4.1 times, in 2002 it was 4.7 times, in 2003 it was 12 times, the highest number in the country, and in 2004 it was 19.9 times, reaching the top five in the Asia Pacific region. This is an indication that Taichung citizens actively attend various activities and are keen to enrich themselves, giving Taichung a definite air of culture.

In order to promote the borderless art concept, various exhibitions and activities have included performance artists from Taiwan and abroad.
