Mayor Jason Hu has made obvious progress in his four-year term in public safety and economic advancement.(2005-9-23)

Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu has demonstrated over his four year term significant strides in public security and economic development. The metropolis is showing its strengths and he has expressed that all that is needed is continued progress in this direction and Taichung will have a rosy future. City Councilmember Huang Shufen has offered support for this assessment and she has symbolically handed off the baton to Hu entrusting the future to him.

Four years ago public security was at an all-time low and traffic was snarled when Mayor Hu took office. Cars parked along the “windy city” (a reference to madness) were plastered with advertisements for prostitution and sex calls. The real estate market was slow and it was difficult to sell even in the low-value districts. Now, four years later, there has been marked improvement in public security and cases of vagabonds and theft are relatively low compared to other regions in the nation.

Although actual statistics and how people feel about their security may differ, Taichung City pubic security can be compared to a new student showing the early signs of improvement.
