The Renovation Completion Ceremony of the Taichung Railway Station took place on November 5, Taichung city mayor Jason Hu and other central government officials were present at the ribbon cutting to officially reopen the railway station with its new look. Mayor Hu expressed that the Taichung railway Station was severely damaged during the 921 earthquake. City councilors were all very concerned with the renovation of the railway station. However, the central government was unable to reach an agreement over the renovation costs for a long time. It was not until the Executive Yuan decided to grant subsidies towards the project that this historical building could be renovated. Mayor Hu said that there are almost a million people passing through Taichung Railway Station every month. It is a pleasure for the city government to help the station regain its former glory, and Mayor Hu hopes that the Taiwan Railway Bureau will provide the best service to the public, and that Taichung Railway Station will be the most attractive and friendly railway station. And it is hoped that Taichung city and the Taichung Railway Station will develop at the same pace, bringing prosperity to the people of Taichung.
