On January 2, during the manager's meeting, Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu presented NT$20,000 worth of prize money to Dr. Xie Ren-Feng for assisting the police in the arrest of a suspect. Dr. Xie brought along his father and his two sons, who were all very proud of him. Dr. Xie expressed that at the time, he had only wanted to help the victim, and he did not realize that there would be prize money for helping solve the crime. Mayor Hu not only praised Dr. Xie for his bravery, but also expressed his wish that more citizens would actively assist the police in solving crimes.

At around 9:31pm on December 15, 2005, Dr. Xie Ren-Feng witnessed a suspect robbing a victim, snatching a bag worth NT$16,000 and NT$9,200 worth in cash then proceeding to run away. When Dr. Xie heard the victim's cries for help, he immediately stepped forward to pursue the suspect without worrying about his own safety. He caught the suspect barehanded and kept him pinned on the ground till police officers from the West District's 1st Bureau came and arrested the suspect. Dr. Xie's bravery is well worth commending.
