Released from the Government Information Office
2006, June 24

The Committee of Public Construction of the Legislative Yuan, led by the committee leader, will accompany persons from the National Council of Physical Fitness and Sports to survey the construction site of the International Baseball Arena, and a briefing by the City Government representative was made at the site. The actual progress on the main construction site was noted at 63.1%, and an underestimated improvement of 3.147% was also noted. There is wish to hold the Asia Cup baseball games in November as planned.

According to the City Government's briefing, 59.953% was the approximated progression rate on June 19, and the actual progression rate was 63.1%, resulting in a 3.147% underestimated improvement. Related construction, material and facility checks, and construction quality and management control shall all abide to regulations and undergo strict third degree quality control.

According to the Department of Economic Development, the population in Taichung has reached millions, and the old baseball arena contained poor facilities and did not match to standards of a proper baseball arena. After the construction of the new arena, the new baseball field will be only 1 or 2 hours away from Taichung, Chang-hua, and Nan-tou County. Cruising on the smooth highways and railroads, the arena can also be accessible by those from the north in places such as Hsin ??"chu, and Chi-yi in the south. This new arena does not only provide a space for baseball competition in Taichung, but also brings about friendly competition between counties and cities within the vicinity of central Taiwan, and plays an important part in stimulating tourism and visual aesthetics of the city.
