City Government Holds Chief’s Meeting to Pray for Mayor’s Wife(2006-11-21)

On the evening of 18th, Mayor of Taichung City, Jason Hu and his wife were involved in a traffic accident. However, the City Council’s session of general interpellation is in progress from 20th to 24th. At 8.30 AM, the City Government held an emergency chief’s meeting by Deputy Mayor, James, Chia-chi Hsiao. Mr. Hsiao passed on the mayor’s instruction on municipal affairs and had led department chiefs to pray for a quick recovery for the mayor and his wife.


Deputy Mayor Hsiao stated that Mayor Hu suffered few bruises and mild concussion from the accident, but he is conscious and remains in a stable condition. Mayor Hu wanted to remind all colleagues to keep up with scheduled work as it is towards the end of a year. Regarding budget review for the construction project of Metropolitan Opera House, Mr. Hu expects continuous negotiation with city councilors to pass the budget.


In addition, the Intercontinental Baseball Cup has closed at11:30 PM on the 19th. With the hard work and cooperation from the all involving members at the city government, this year’s Intercontinental Cup is said to be most successful game in history. Taichung City is also pursuing to hold Baseball World Cup next year.


The mayor’s wife, Shao, Shiao-ling, was badly injured in the accident and is still under the care of Chi-mei Hospital, Tainan. During the meeting, department chiefs spent one minute to pray for her, and wish her a speedy recovery.


Deputy Mayor Hsiao also said that this incident involving the mayor and his wife has caused concerns among employees of the city government. To show their support, many plan to travel to Tainan and visit Mayor Hu and his wife in the hospital. Mayor Hu deeply appreciates the caring gesture. He suggests that rather than making a trip to Tainan, booklets provided by the City Government at service counter are available for people to sign and express their concerns.


Director of the Personnel Office, Lin Yu-pei reminds that the city council’s session of general interpellation will go on as scheduled to commence at 9 AM. All department chiefs are advised to arrive on time.
