Today (Sep 8th), the Taichung City Government and the Taichung Athletics Association held the “Athletic Celebration to Commend Individuals Exhibiting Exceptional Contributions to the Field of Athletics and Excellent Athletic Teenagers” for the 2009 Sports Festival, in Wen Ying Hall. Taichung City Mayor, Mr. Jason Hu, and Chairman Ming-Rung Tu, of the Taichung Athletics Association, awarded prizes together at this assembly to praise individuals exhibiting exceptional contributions to the field of athletics and excellent athletic teenagers. A live Yuanji dance performance by the Yuanji Dance Organization and a street dance by the Aerobic Fitness & Health Association were arranged as well.
Mayor Hu addressed that National Taiwan Sport University was previously almost moved to Chia-Yi. It is good luck for Taichung that they were able to keep this university here. NTSU runs many athletic training activities and competitions for the elementary schools and junior high schools in Taichung City. It contributes greatly to the athletic development of Taichung. Mayor Hu also wished students of NTSU extraordinary performances in national or even international sports competitions in the future.
First of all, Mayor Hu awarded the “Special Contribution Award” to Mr. Tian-Hua Shiue, who has just retired from the position of Secretary-General of the Taichung Athletics Association this March. He has already devoted himself to the athletic field for 38 years and Mayor Hu appreciated his contribution to Taichung’s athletic development.
Chairman Tu also mentioned that he appreciated the efforts from Mayor Hu and the whole government team in the field of athletics. Meanwhile, the National Athletic Games will be held in Taichung soon. The credit for these is given to the support and promotion from everyone toward the athletic activities. In this case, Taichung City can, therefore, have better and better athletic achievement.

In 2009, the “Award of Individuals Exhibiting Exceptional Contributions to the Field of Athletics” went to 56 persons in total, including: Bau-Lung Chang, Chiung-Ju Jung, and Ruei-Yi Guo, etc. Conversely, there were 25 winners of the “Award of Excellent Teenager Athletes”, including: Jia-Hung Yuan, Jing-Shian Liao, and Tz-Cheng Lin, etc.
