To encourage citizens to embrace the nature, Taichung Mountaineering Association held the activity of “2012 Mountaineering Day: Taichung Springtime Family Mountaineering” on April 22nd, attracting more than 6,000 participants. The whole rout is 3.8km long, ranging from Camphor Tree Park in Taiping District to the mountainside industrial highway. Taichung City Mayor Chi-Chiang Hu was onsite to show his support and picked up two winners for 2 American retro bikes.

In the morning of the 22nd, more than 6,000 participants crashed into Camphor Tree Park for this mountaineering activity, paralyzed the traffic around. Governmental officers including Mayor Hu, Director of Sports Office Gang-Chiang Liu, Senators Li-Hua Lee and Pei-Han Lin and special assistant Moo-Chu Jian also participated in the event.

The host unit especially organized a “Hakka Dance” activity for warm up before mountaineering; the activity was accompanied by drums to cheer the spirit up.

Mayor Hu expressed that although there was heavy rain the night before, it stopped right before the outset of the event, showing that determination can change God’s mind; he also encouraged citizens to do exercise regularly to maintain a healthier life. Besides 6,000 participants, this event also attracted donation of prizes from enterprises in various fields, including two retro and leisure style bikes produced by American company Schwinn, which was famous for a century old history. The two lucky winners were Chung-Rui Yang from the South District and Rui-Lin Lu from Taipin District.

Through this event, the issue of old and narrow bridge around Ju-Long-Pu area in Taipin district had aroused the attention of senator Li-Hua Lee and she conveyed the importance of reconstruction. Mayor Hu promised to reconstruct the bridge by the end of this year to promote a safer and more comfortable environment for the citizens.
