Under the jurisdiction of Taichung City are more than 2,500 factories discharging waste water, which, if not properly treated, would cause severe pollution to our river systems.
To prevent unscrupulous businesspeople from discharging the untreated waste water directly or indirectly into the nearby rivers and streams, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government held the third round of annual training and advocacy session on September 27, 2012. The workshop consisted of two parts, namely “Operating Practices of Wastewater (Sewage) Treatment Facilities: Parameter Description and Reasoning Analysis" and "Wastewater Recycling Technology Assessment System". Participants were mainly the technicians engaged in the operations of wastewater treatment facilities at the 450 factories registered with this EPB. They were taught how to correctly operate the facilities and how to reduce pollution by source control.
Environmental Protection Bureau said that more than 450 companies have already set up dedicated technicians to treat sewage according to the Water Pollution Control Act. Those technicians are responsible for not only the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facilities but also assistance in the application, records and archive of relevant documents for the inspection by competent authority from time to time.
Environmental Protection Bureau also calls on every citizen to watch out for the river water quality near his/her home. If the water quality or water color is detected abnormal, please dial the toll-free phone at 0800-066666 or call the 24-hour informant hotline at 04-2229-1748. Environmental Protection Bureau will dispatch staff to investigate and deal with the case as soon as possible. Your concern of the river systems will make Taichung City a better place to live for everyone.
