Taichung City ranked second in 2012 Objective Happiness Index among five special municipalities

Economic Times and Nan Shan Life Insurance joined hand for the first time to conduct 2012 Happiness Index Survey for counties and cities in Taiwan. The results were published on September 10, 2012. Taichung City ranked second in Overall Happiness Index among the five special municipalities (second only to Taipei) and it also ranked second in Objective Happiness among the five special municipalities (number 10 in the national rankings). Findings of the Happiness Index Survey have shown that most of the indicators for Objective Happiness are on a gradually improving trend after Taichung County was merged into Taichung City. Among the ten indicators (two of which do not have a benchmark for comparison), seven indicators have improved. Nevertheless, the indicator,“concentration of suspended particles in the air" under the “environmental quality” category, has deteriorated. Thus, Taichung City should strive to improve its air quality in the future.
