Free wireless network services have been provided at every district library of Taichung City, the Calligraphy Greenway(草悟道), Yangming Building, and New Taichung City Hall. Among them, the SSID for public areas on the first floor of New Taichung City Hall is named "Taichung-Guest", through which anybody can access the free wireless net work service during the business hours without application for an account. Nevertheless, the conference rooms on and above the second floor belong to the office area, whose SSID name is called "Taichung-Auth". To access the WiFi network there, you are required to apply for an account in advance. Please refer to “Rules for Using Wireless Network in New Taichung City Hall” for how to apply for an account and access the network.
Taichung City Government has set up a target to provide free wireless net work services at all its major agencies by the year end of 2012. The WiFi hotspots are expected to expand further to all the densely in habited areas of Taichung City in the future. If you have any question about wireless network access service; please call the Taichung City Government Information Center at extension 22312.
In addition, the i-Taiwan program promoted by Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, Executive Yuan has already set up 324 free wireless network access points in Taichung City. Anyone who holds a mobile phone account can register his/her account number at the website http://itaiwan.gov.tw. After completing the registration, you can start to enjoy the free wireless net work service of 1 Mbps band width at any of the 4,000 hot spots affixed with i-Taiwan identification icons. Moreover, if you have had a TPE-Free account from Taipei City or a New Taipei account from New Taipei City, you need not apply for an i Taiwan account. You can use your TPE-Free or New Taipei account to access any hot spots covered by i-Taiwan, TPE-Free, and New Taipei. You are welcomed to make use of the services.
