To promote “one-hour living circles” and strengthen regional transport services, the Transportation Bureau of Taichung City Government has launched five rapid bus routes, under the name of "Shinkansens", which include "Taiwan Boulevard - Airport", "Dali Wufeng - New City Hall", "Dajia - Taichung Girls' Senior High School, "Fengyuan - New City Hall", and "Gu Guan - New City Hall (High-speed Rail Taichung Station)". These five bus expressways feature less stops, punctuality, speed, innovation, and safety. Every bus body is painted with an aircraft for easy identification. The first Shinkansen, the route for "Taiwan Boulevard - Airport", has been kicked off since April 10 to go with the opening of newly expanded International Terminal of Taichung Airport.
Transportation Bureau pointed out that Bus Line #150 or the "Taiwan Boulevard-Airport" Shinkansen, which goes from Taichung Park ─ Jianguo Road ─ Taichung Railway Station ─ Taiwan Boulevard ─ Special No. 3 ─ Longjing Interchange ─ Freeway No. 3 ─ Shalu Interchange ─ Zhong Qing Road ─ Ching Chuan Kang Airport, is 22.3 km in a single trip. At the initial stage, a bus is dispatched every 30 minutes between 5:30 am and 11:00 pm every day. The route has only 13 stops and takes about 60 minutes. In comparison, it saves at least 30 minutes if you take an ordinary road that needs 90 minutes of travel time. Every bus is painted with an aircraft for easy identification. Moreover, Bus Line #162 "Shalu - Airport" travels within 8 km, so you can have a free ride upon swiping your card. At the initial stage, a bus is dispatched every 30 minutes from 5:45 am to 11:15 pm every day. It is expected that people living in the coastal region can have a convenient public transportation service for going to the Airport.
Lin Liang-tay (林良泰), Director-general of Transportation Bureau, said, “The 5 Shinkansens feature punctuality, speed, innovation, and safety. As the buses travel on the freeway for the first time, each of them must pass the vehicle tilt stability test by the Automobile Research and Testing Center (ARTC). It is also because we take the freeway that we can reduce the travel time by at least 30 to 60 minutes when compared with taking an ordinary road. We shall be able to provide better transport services to our citizens and visitors for going to work, school, shopping and business trip, etc. Of course, the 8 km free ride and NT$ 60 price cap apply to the Shinkansen. Everyone is welcome to make use of our public transport system.”
