Taichung City Second Environmental Art Festival kicked off at 9:00 am on May 18, 2013 (Sat) at the Pozhilin Discarded Furniture Recycling Center run by the Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) of Taichung City Government. To make this opening ceremony more thematic and appealing, the EPB invited Mr. Huang Chao-hu (黃朝湖), president of the International Union of Color Ink Painters, to be curator. Also invited were many artists and teachers, including Chong Ming-zhong (莊明中), Zhong Jun-xiong (鐘俊雄), Lee Ming-hsan (李明憲), Yu Den-quan (余燈銓), Zhu Zhong-yong (朱忠勇), Huang Chiu-yueh (黃秋月), Xiao Xi (蕭璽), Guo Yi-fong (郭益逢), Zhong Bin-shaw (鐘斌效), Ji Shaun (紀向), Jiang Yu-lang (蔣玉郎), Lin Shan-ying (林墡瑛), Liao Ying-xi (廖迎晰), Nien Tien-hui (粘天輝), Lin Hong-ming (林鴻銘), and Ye Hui-mei (葉惠玫) and students from the National Taichung University of Education, the National Taichung First Senior High School, and the Taichung City Jyun Gong Elementary School. All of them worked together to create nearly thirty environmental artworks, all of which were transformed from waste and displayed at Pozhilin Park.
Held at the scene was also a collective painting event, which was jointly completed by a number of city councilors and artists. The ribbon cutting ceremony was co-chaired by Taichung City Mayor, the Director-general of Environmental Protection Bureau and distinguished guests.
Taichung City Second Environmental Art Festival will also make roadshows at the time and place as follows:
1. June 7 (Fri) ~ June 10 (Mon) at World Trade Center Taichung
2. June 18 (Tue) ~ June 21 (Fri) at the Plaza of Taichung Prefectural Hall
3. June 25 (Tue) ~ June 28 (Fri) at the first-floor atrium of Hueijhong Building of Taichung City Hall on Taiwan Boulevard
Held on the opening ceremony on May 18 was also a colored mask competition, in which 50 teams of students from junior high schools and elementary schools wore painted masks with creative “waste-turned” dresses for the catwalk. In addition, 120 Pozhilin baby beaver dolls were given out to the parent-kid teams who joined the DIY fun competition.
For the warm up show, two Golden Lion Parade troupes and one percussion troupe were invited to make performances at the scene. It is worth mentioning that all of them were from the communities paying attention to environmental education. In addition, there were also propaganda stalls where Q&A sessions, fun games, activity stamp collection and small prizes for winners were offered. The venue is Pozhilin Discarded Furniture Recycling Center, whose address is No. 333, Huangzhong East Rd., Beitun District, Taichung City (formerly No. 1008—1, Jinfu Road, Beitun District).
