Inspectors Demanded Four Vendors to Post Food Safety Statement

In the midnight of June 1, Huang Mei-na (黃美娜), Director-general of Health Bureau of Taichung City Government led inspectors to Feng Chia Night Market to conduct the first wave of inspection on eight categories of food, including rice flour lath (粄條),Taiwanese meatballs (肉圓), tempura (黑輪), tapioca bubbles (粉圓), tofu pudding (豆花), yellow rice cake (粉粿), taro flour balls (芋圓), and sweetpotato rice balls (地瓜圓).All the vendors were found to have posted the food safety inspection reports or statements.

At 8:00 on June 2, all the staff of Health Bureau continued the checks, sweeping around every corner of Taichung City. Among the 369 inspected vendors, 4vendors in the traditional market of Shengang District selling tofu pudding, rice flour lath, and yellow rice cakewere found withoutposting a food safety statement and were ordered to remove products off the shelf on the spot.

The vendors said that they wouldget product inspection certificates from upstream makers as soon as possible and post them on their stalls or stores before resuming business.Inspectors of Health Bureau also said they would spot check every vendor from time to time to ensure the interests of consumers.

Director-general Huang Mei-na said, “Starting from June 1, all the vendors selling the eight categories of foodmust present the food safety inspection reports or statements sealed with the company stamps of raw material suppliers, so that consumers can be assured of food safety.”
