Mark Six Lottery has been the most common gambling in Taiwan, causing a great number of criminal cases and huge financial losses. Therefore, the Criminal Investigation Corps of Taichung City Government Police Department has been taking concrete and effective measures to crack down such cases and reduce the financial losses of the public.
Investigation 6th Unit, Criminal Investigation Corps of the Police Department received information that Wu (吳○峰) was operating a Mark Six betting station and using smartphones to accept betting. Investigation 6th Unit set out to investigate immediately, collected data, reported to Taichung District Prosecutors Office, and applied for a search warrant. It was found that Wu owned a Mark Six betting station and used APP LINE to connect with the gamblers and accept their wagers. It was obvious that Wu intended to evade the police investigation as well as to obtain huge profits.
The police officers raided the betting station located in Holi District on October 29, 2013. Searched the house, the police officers were surprised that there were no fax machines and other instruments for gambling. Meanwhile, Wu’s Smartphone was alarming because of the message alert tone of APP LINE. Wu admitted he had been using smartphones to accept the placement of wagers on Mark Six.
To keep Wu from deleting the conversations on the smartphone, the police officers seized his Samsung smartphone and the SIM card immediately. Downloaded the gambling information, the police officers found the wagers might amount to NT$20,000 - 90,000 each time and Wu could have obtained illegal commission amounts to several million NT dollars. Wu admitted his crime and the case has been transferred to Taichung District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
Police vowed to crack down all kinds of illegal gambling and urged our citizens to report any illegal activity to the Criminal Investigation Corps of Taichung City Government Police Department at Tel: 04-2328-7086.
