Co-sponsored by Executive Yuan’s Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government, the "Air Quality Management Camp" was held at Taichung’s Xiaoming Girl High School on Monday, April 20, 2015 on the eve of Earth Day. In this environmental education workshop, students learned the basics of air pollutants and the relationships between air quality and their own health. They also practiced to use simple sensors to monitor air quality and detect the sources of air pollutants.

As environmental issues, such as air pollution, climate change, and global warming, has aroused a lot of concern in the world, the EPA has formulated countermeasures, drafted environmental regulations, and promoted environmental education. To ensure good air quality in central Taiwan, the EPA has also worked together with local governments to promote air pollution reduction campaigns in the areas, said the EPA.

EPB Director-general Hung Cheng-chung (洪正中) said, “Thanks to the EPA and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, we are happy to host this air-quality education workshop in the Xiaoming Girl High School. This event surely makes Taichung City more visible to the world. The reason why we have chosen Xiaoming Girl High School to host this workshop is because Xiaoming is well known for its educational philosophy in ‘whole-person care’ and environmental protection. Xiaoming has now passed the screening stages and entered into the final contest for the 3rd National Environmental Education Award in 2015. This is a good evidence to show how much Xiaoming pays attention to environmental education.”

“Since the first day he took office, Mayor Lin Chia-lung has been pushing very hard to tighten air emission standards and promote urban afforestation.” Director-general Hung added, “Mayor Lin always talks about his dream to build Taichung City into a most livable ‘capital of life,’ where environment is protected and public health is safeguarded. Anyway, we have only one Earth. We have no other option but love the Earth.”
