Taichung’s Disaster Prevention and Preparedness System Receives Affirmation of Executive Yuan

The Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government has been strengthening its efforts in fire prevention and disaster preparedness, and its performance has been highly affirmed by the central government. Wang Chiu-tong (王秋冬), Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Central Taiwan Joint Services Center, Executive Yuan, led 17 members of the Visit and Review Committee from the central government to inspect the Taichung City’s Disaster Prevention and Preparedness system on September 1, and all the 17 members have unanimously given out high recognition.

The Visit and Review Committee examines the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness systems of every city and county in Taiwan every year. Presided over by Lee Xian-yi (李賢義), Deputy Secretary-General of Taichung City Government, the evaluation meeting was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, Hsiao Huan-chang (蕭煥章), Director-general of Fire Bureau made a briefing and then written information was presented for assessment. In the second stage, all the members of Visit and Review Committee went over to inspect the Shigang District Office and its asylum at the Shigang District Social Welfare Center. They have given a very high rating for our preparedness.

Director-general Hsiao said, “Disaster Prevention and Preparedness is a very challenging task, especially for the front-line combat units like District Office. We are very happy to have central-government officials in charge Disaster Prevention and Preparedness to examine the status and effectiveness of our system. We are also very pleased to receive high rating from them. Working together with the central government, we should be able to give our citizens better protection.”

Deputy Secretary-General Lee also thanked the officials from the central government to give the city a lot of advice and guidance. He hoped that the city's Disaster Prevention and Preparedness system can be further improved to provide a more livable environment for the general public.
