Fourth Precinct, Taichung City Police Department Advocates Driving Safety──Avoid Speeding to Protect Life

At 14:21pm on March 6th, a severe traffic accident occurred at the crossroads of Wenxin S. Rd. and Wenxin S. 5th Rd., Nantun Dist, Taichung City. A family going out with a white Honda passenger car was struck at the crossroads by another passenger car, which just made an illegal left turn. Although 119 arrived immediately to send the passengers struck to the hospital, the passengers sitting on the right and the center of the back seat still died shortly after first aid was given due to severe injuries caused by the strong impact. After the police retrieved dash-cam videos from other vehicles and the images from surveillance cams at the crossroads, it was tentatively determined that the cause of the accident was "violation of traffic signs, speeding and not fastening seatbelts according to regulations". In order to avoid such regretful accidents from happening again, the Fourth Precinct of Taichung City Police Department reinforced traffic violation inspection duty at the crossroads and peripheral locations where accidents often occur, increased patrol shifts, and enforced traffic regulations to warn the drivers and pedestrians.

The inner most lane of Wenxin S. Rd. is a dedicated lane for left-turning vehicles, and arrows indicating left-turn are painted at the beginning of the various intersections and inside the dedicated lane, together with the dedicated left-turn sign and left-turn waiting zone informing drivers to switch into the dedicated lane and make left turns according to the dedicated left-turn signal. The Fourth Precinct, Taichung City Police Department called on the public to obey the traffic signs, indicating lines and signals when driving. It’s not worthy to cause lifetime regret just for speeding to gain a little time.
