越捷台中直飛胡志明首航 落實新南向政策
The Viet Jet Taichung-Ho Chi Minh City route officially launched on Jan 15th, with four flights a week departing from Taichung directly to Vietnam. Director of the Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau Chen Sheng-shan stated that the city government is actively promoting the “in-n-out from central Taiwan” international tourism model, with the goal of 3 to 5-hour distance flights to drive international tourism in central Taiwan. The launch by Viet Jet is in line with the aim of developing Taichung International Airport into the second landing airport for budget airlines, in accordance with the southbound policy.

On the 15th, Viet Jet held the Taichung - Ho Chi Minh City inaugural ceremony at Taichung International Airport. Co-attended by Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau Director Chen Sheng-shan, City Councilor Chen Shi-kai, Taichung International Airport Director Zhang Rui-shu, Viet Jet Taiwan Representative Nie Kun-lin, Viet Jet Taiwan General Agency chairman Tao Shilong, Taichung County Travel Agency Association Chairman Huang Yao-de, who welcomed the 92 Vietnamese visitors arriving in Taichung and seeing off the 149 passengers to Ho Chi Minh City on its maiden flight.

Tourism Bureau Director Chen stated that the airline’s “Taichung - Ho Chi Minh City” route will be the fifth route in Taiwan, marking Taichung as the fourth destination. After its maiden voyage, four direct flights a week will begin from Taichung to Vietnam. Passengers traveling to Vietnam will have more choices, and can also look forward to using Taichung International Airport as a gateway to bring international travelers for tours in Taiwan with the launch.

He pointed out that Taichung has the double port advantage of sea and air travel, and the past two years have seen successful rise in international visitors and significant growth in passenger volume with the travel resource integration of seven central Taiwan counties and promotion of “in-n-out from central Taiwan” international tourism model, with 3 to 5 hours flight distance as the goal to expand international flights. The passenger volume has increased yearly from 1.2837 million in 2010 to 2.38 million passengers last year. It is an indication that Taichung Airport has accumulated a certain amount of capability as an international airport.

Director Chen said the city government is also actively promoting Taichung International Airport as the second landing airport for low-cost airlines, targeting to become the “low-cost aviation operations center”. the Tourism Bureau was in touch with more than 10 low-cost carrier companies for briefing, and is working hard at extending Asian routes. The launch of Viet Jet Ho Chi Minh is a positive response, also an implementation of the new Southbound policy. As of March 28th this year, flights between Taichung, Bangkok and Macau route is about to begin.

Nieh kun-lin, representative of Viet Jet Air indicates that ever since direct flights from Vietnam to Taiwan began on December 12th, 2014, more routes are vigorously being expanded in recent years in a commitment to bringing novel services to the market. Viet Jet Air currently operates flights connecting Taipei and Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei and Hanoi, Tainan and Ho Chi Minh City, and Kaohsiung and Ho Chi Minh City. With the launch of Taichung - Ho Chi Minh City flights, VietJet has the most routes connecting Taiwan and Vietnam and serves the most destinations in Taiwan of any foreign budget airline.

The Tourism Bureau pointed out that the “in-n-out from central Taiwan” tourism policy is an important medium for Taiwan to integrate with the international community. The seven counties Taichung, Changhua, Miaoli, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi and Chiayi County have sufficient potentials to attract tourists from ASEAN, especially when the 7 million total populations of these counties include many businesspeople and new residents with friends and relatives in ASEAN. It is absolutely sufficient to support the Taichung route market, and promote comprehensive development of tourism in Taiwan.

Passengers traveling by Viet Jet from Taichung to Ho Chi Minh City on its maiden voyage today will be receiving an elegant gift. The passenger representative also believes that the development of this route will be more convenient commuting to Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Oriental Paris, opening up a new option for traveling abroad.
