Guardianship of Baby Yui by the City Government will be Reassumed to Denmark,The Social Affairs Bureau Thanks Foster Family for Selfless Devotion

Unable to be taken care of by birth parents, two-year-old baby Yui has been living with a foster family by the Taichung City Government Social Affairs Bureau since birth. Through the matchmaking of Chung Yi Social Welfare Foundation, Yui is going to be adopted by a Danish couple the Ulrichsens’. The Social Affairs Bureau states that during the farewell party yesterday (17), Yui, cuddled by the adoptive parent’s side preparing to begin a new chapter in life, was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Much gratitude was given to the many years of care by the foster family, and the public is invited to join the ranks of becoming foster parents in providing children and youth in need of care a dwelling with warmth.

Before Yui met with Danish parents the Ulrichsens’, they often communicated via webcam. The Ulrichsens’ introduced the Danish family, prepared toys, played the guitar and sang Danish children’s songs for Yui to create a bond. They have also finished decorating Yui’s room. Yui was not at all strangers to each other in the official encounter during the farewell party yesterday, and huddled close while sharing bits of life, preparing to begin a new life in Denmark.

The Social Affairs Bureau Deputy Director Chen Zhong-liang expressed thanks in arranging Yui to a good family. Yui will be accompanied by loving parents and families, and begin a new life.

The Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence states that Yui has a dysfunctional family due to a birth father for imprisoned drug abuse, and a birth mother who also deals drugs, is emotionally unstable with records of suicide.
After Yui’s birth, the city government immediately initiated emergency protective measures to place Yui in the foster home of North District Taiwan Fund for Children and Family. In November, 2015, the applied ruling to the district court of Taichung was affirmed, and Yui’s guardianship was appointed to the City Government Social Affairs Bureau Director.

The Social Affairs Bureau stressed that foster homes are a very important resource in the child and youth protection network. During Yui’s stay in a foster home, family warmth and love was abundantly given. Currently, there are still 88 children with family issues in Taichung City that have their guardianship altered to the mayor or social affairs director in accordance to legal procedures. Every child has a story of hardship growing up, and all circles are invited to join the ranks of becoming a foster family.
