Taichung Gaomei Wetlands is known as “A wonder that one must travel to at least once in a lifetime” in the websites of other countries. This place attracts large number of domestic and foreign tourists on holidays. The Transportation Bureau of Taichung City Government has designed 3 tourist bus routes to provide better service for tourists to visit Gaomei Wetlands. Route 655 will be the first route with service kicked off on April 8. This route has stops at Wuqi Fishing Port, Windmill No.9, Gaomei Wetlands, and the high speed railway station (New Wuri Station of Taiwan Railway), Caihong Residence for the military dependents, and Ling Tung University. This route is a rapid and convenient mean for tourists to visit Gaomei Wetlands. Another 2 routes will be in place in May.

Gaomei Wetlands is located in the Qingshui District of Taichung and traffic is too heavy on holidays as tourists flood in. Traffic congestion is the order of the day, said Wang Yi-Chuan, Director of the Transportation Bureau. To deal with the traffic problem in the neighboring areas, the Transportation Bureau started to design the introduction of 3 tourist bus routes that lead to Gaomei Wetlands last year so that tourist can commute between the urban area and the wetlands conveniently and rapidly.

Route 655 will be open to service on the 8th of the month. This is the first bus route of the 3 tourist bus routes designed by the Transportation Bureau for this purpose. This route is run by Taichung-Shalu Bus Company by appointment of the Bureau. This route will be operated as a cruise at the Gaomei Wetlands Tourist Service Center on a regular schedule so that the tourists can keep the time for taking the bus accurately, said Director Wang.

Another 2 routes, the “Gaomei Wetlands –Taichung Railway Station”, and “Gaomei Wetlands – Qingshui Railway Station”, are underway and will be opened to service in May.

According to the Transportation Bureau, there are some 100,000 tourists traveling to Gaomei Wetlands monthly by head count. With the construction of the Gaomei Tourist Service Center, the Cross-Harbor Sight-Seeing Bridge and other tourist facilities around the area, Taichung City Government will combine different public means of transportation to allow tourists a relaxed one-day trip to the wetlands and surrounding sights easily. They can also enjoy the exotic tastes along the coastline.
