In welcoming the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition, Taichung City Fabric Craft Museum organized the Youthful floral prints fashion show. Starting from September 17, the event is divided into 3 major themes and phases. The current exhibition is Asia University’s “Flowers x garments” and National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School’s “Urban floral prints – Light traveling”. From June 13 to September 17 is emerging designer Juby Chiu’s “Island garden – Daily dialogue”. Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition to appreciate the designers’ splendid, vibrantly colored creations inspired by the theme of flowers.

The press conference for “Youthful floral prints fashion show” was hosted by Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government Chief Secretary Ming-heng Huang and attended by City Councilor Tien-sheng Li, Fen-yu Chang, National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School Principal I-hui Lin and Fashion Apparel Department Director Tzu-chun Liao, Asia University College of Creative Design Assistant Dean Ching-mei Lin, Taichung CASC Director Yen-sheng He as well as numerous local head boroughs and elected representatives.

Four students from National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School and Asia University took to the catwalk during the press conference wearing fashions designed by the respective teams. In particular, National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School adopted 2 themes in selecting their garments: Rainbow Village and Taichung City’s municipal flower – East Asian cherry. Their stunning fashion collection took the audience by storm.

According to Chief Secretary Huang, fashion is akin to a symphony of textiles, and the purpose of Taichung City Fabric Craft Museum is to present the aesthetics of such elegant symphony to everyone.

According to Asia University College of Creative Design Assistant Dean Ching-mei Lin, the design philosophy combines the concept of flowers and eco-friendly fashion, hoping to evoke people’s awareness on global warming.

National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School Principal I-hui Lin expressed her gratitude to the Cultural Affairs Bureau for giving the students this opportunity; their fashion design theme integrates the flora expo with 11 well-known scenic destinations in Taichung City to create garments with authentic Taichung flair.

Created by merging the space of former Dali Children’s Arts Museum and the resources of former Weave Craft Museum of Taichung, Taichung City Fabric Craft Museum is the first professional public library in the city, which opened its doors to the public last year. In the future, representative fabrics and related information will be collected and used as the foundation for fabric culture collection and research. Moreover, the cultural values of fabrics will be portrayed through exhibitions and lectures, thereby promoting sustainable collaborations in the industry.

Youthful floral prints fashion show will organize 3 fashion exhibitions from March 31 until September 17 as well as 2 catwalk shows in order to convey the concept of fashion through fabrics. The first exhibition is “Flowers x garments” , where Asia University Department of Fashion Design Professor Ching-mei Lin and students will present 18 creations inspired by the theme of flowers, where motifs are digitally printed and transferred onto the garments in conjunction with embroidery to convey the concept of ecological conservation and green fashion.

From April 25 to June 30, “Urban floral prints – Light traveling” will be presented by National Taichung Home Economical and Commercial Senior Vocational School Department of Fashion Apparel Director Tzu-chun Liao and students, featuring creations combining floral elements with 11 renowned tourist destinations in Taichung City such as Rainbow Village, Jianguo Market and Taichung Station etc. Digital prints and natural dye were applied to fabric design to present its simple aesthetics.
