In response to the approaching monsoon season, Mayor Chia-lung Lin convened staff meeting for Taichung City Disaster Emergency Operation Center (activated as level-2 facility) on the 17th and requested that the city government and various authorities should reinforce and ensure the soundness of all disaster prevention work. In the early hours of the 18th, he led a delegation to France to attend the press conference for the Taiwan pavilion at SIAE, where he marketed Taichung’s machinery and aeronautics industry to the world. At the same time, he also signed a MOU with Dassault to strengthen industry cooperation between Taiwan and France. Furthermore, he also marketed the 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo and invited international visitors to join the grand event.
Taichung is blessed with the 60 km stretch of golden rift valley at the foot of Dadu Mountain, boasting a solid industry foundation, therefore the central government is planning to develop smart machinery and aeronautics industry in Taichung, thereby transforming the city into the capital of smart machineries. During his visit to Toulouse, France, Mayor Lin will visit French IoT unicorn Sigfox to establish a R&D and testing center in the Shuinan Smart City, where IoT, Big Data and cloud technologies are introduced to transform Taichung into a smart city.
In addition, they will also visit Toulouse Métropole to share smart city experiences and understand the local application of “driverless EV”, as well as learn from Toulouse Métropole’s know-how in building a riverbank cityscape. Mayor Lin invited Toulouse Métropole to participate in the 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo, hoping to help each other build great cities and strengthen interaction between the 2 cities.
Taichung is the most important center of the aeronautics industry in Taiwan, because it is not only the home of AIDC but also possesses comprehensive aeronautics processing industry chain. Mayor Lin will also visit Airbus Industrie headquarters in Toulouse to observe the assembly line of the jumbo jets; he will introduce Taiwan’s prowess in smart machinery and aeronautics to Airbus in anticipation of fostering international cooperation opportunities and reinforce the technical strength of Taichung’s aeronautics industry.
Furthermore, Mayor Lin will be attending the press conference for the Taiwan pavilion at SIAE to showcase Taichung’s capabilities in the aeronautics industry; he will be signing an MOU with Dassault Systèmes to promote advanced software and systems simulation technology development, in turn upgrading industries in Taichung and making another significant stride towards materializing the policy of domestic production of indigenous aircrafts.
Taichung is a precision machinery industry cluster, with Victor Taichung being one of the best in the business, thus Mayor Lin will visit its branch company in France and promise to lend his full support for Victor Taichung’s brand new smart factory in phase 2 of the Taichung City Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park, so that they can contribute to developing the smart machinery industry in Taichung. Mayor Lin will pay a visit to MEDEF headquarters to exchange experiences in smart city, renewable energy cooperation, aeronautics and smart machinery.
Furthermore, since Taichung is promoting the revitalization of waterfront environments such as the Lu River and Liu River as well as the old city, Mayor Lin will visit APUR and take a look at the Seine in order to absorb successful experiences in the revitalization of unused space in Bercy Village. The valuable knowledge can be used as reference for Taichung Overpass and revitalization of the warehouse cluster on Xinming Street.
With a proud history of over 100 years, Tour de France will be hosting the “L’Etape du tour” in Taichung, Taiwan for the first time in September this year. In this regard, Mayor Lin will also visit Tour de France A.S.O headquarters to organize L’Etape du tour in Taichung for the next 3 years. In conjunction with 2019 East Asian Youth Games Taichung, the ambition is to create a sports city.
On the other hand, Deputy Mayor Kuang-yao Chang will be representing the Mayor to attend the France-Taiwan Aeronautic & Smart Machinery Seminar to encourage the industry, government, academia and research institutions in Taiwan and France to establish a good communication channel, so as to share avant-garde technologies in smart manufacturing and aerospace composite materials. The goal is to generate cooperation opportunities and enhance the industry competitiveness of both countries.
Lastly, the city government delegation will also head to the Parisian headquarters of the largest electricity generator in the world – EDF to visit its smart grid system, smart city exhibition hall and smart energy management center. It is hoped to introduce French smart power technology to the Shuinan Smart City and create the first smart, low carbon district in Taiwan, in turn striving towards the vison of “low carbon city and green economy”.
