The Taichung City government signed an agreement with the Industrial Technologies Research Institute and Dessault Systems on June 21 to promote advanced industrial software and system simulation technology. Taichung mayor Lin Jialong stated that Dessault’s 3D simulation and calculation software is the key technology to promoting smart machinery. The city government will act as the platform for advancing cooperation between Dessault and local Taichung industries, expediting industrial advancement and connecting internationally. Additionally, he hopes that, in the future, Taichung can transform into a smart city using Dessault’s comprehensive software.

The Taichung City government, ITRI, and Dessault signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 21, represented by Taichung CIty Mayor Lin Jialong, ITRI Tech Center Head Luo Zuoliang, and Dessault Systems Upper Vice CEO Bertrand Sicot.

Mayor Lin stated that, through the Paris Air Show, his team was able to affirm that aircraft technology is at the highest standard of smart manufacturing. Taiwan has an advantage for hardware manufacturing in the precision machinery and aerospace industries, with the next key step in smart manufacturing being how to integrate software design.

He stated, Taichung is a smart machinery capital, and that Taichung’s signing of the MOD with Dessault and ITRI will allow Taichung to act as a platform for helping local industries introduce Dessault Systems software, expediting industry advancement, and connecting Taichung’s smart machinery and aerospace industries with the world at large, creating international business opportunities.

Mayor Lin also stated that Taichung is in the process of building the Shuinan Smart City. The city government hopes to use Dessault Systems’ technology to build a smart city, letting people learn more about smart cities. The government believes that, through the MOU with Dessault, they can achieve their goals of helping industrial development and turning Taichung into a model city.

Dessault Systems Upper Vice CEO Bertrand Sicot stated, not long ago, Dessault Systems held the 2017 Dessault Taiwan Users Conference to introduce Dessault’s software systems. Dessault hopes to work with Taichung, and believes that through the MOU, they can bring innovation to the city together.

The Taichung Department of Economic Development stated, Dessault Systems is an internationally renowned smart machinery software supplier. Their computer aid design and manufacturing software is Solidworks and CATIA, which are widely used in manufacturing around the globe. Dessault’s 3D simulation and calculation software are key elements of smart machinery.

Aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus both use Dessault Systems products, as do nearly 90% of all automotive manufacturers including BMW and Tesla. Additionally, Dessault Systems’ software can be used in products and manufacturing, and may also be integrated into clouds or big data, developing comprehensive systems for smart manufacturing.

The Department of Economic Development stated that, through the signing of this MOU, the city established a long term working relationship with Dessault, promoting advanced industrial software and systems simulation technology in Taichung, and promoting cooperation between Dessault Systems and machine equipment companies. This will be achieved by introducing Dessault software, thereby helping the local machine industry create smart machinery, and by using the software in processing fields such as aerospace parts, and letting Taichung’s smart machinery into the international market.

Department of Economic Development Chair Lu Yaozhi stated that the central government acknowledges Taichung as the Capital of Smart Machinery. Taichung’s new cooperation with ITRI and Dessault Systems will definitely greatly increase Taichung’s capacity for smart city design and smart manufacturing in the precision industry. With the help of ITRI, the city government has established a long term working relationship with Dessault Systems. The government plans to arrange regular meetings to allow cooperation to take place practically and effectively in the future.

After signing the MOU with Dessault and ITRI, Mayor Lin visited company booths, including Dessault, Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation, Fair Friend Group, and Asia Pacific Elite Corp. He also visited the Canadian booth where he learned more about advanced Aerospace technology from the Bombardier team. Afterwards, he visited Dessault Systems headquarters to become familiar with how the relevant professional software is used for aerospace part design and smart city planning.
