Luchuan Canal has launched its exclusive logo! Taichung City Government recently implemented the “Xincheng Luchuan Canal Waterfront Corridor Project”, besides flood prevention, water improvement and landscaping measures, the first waterfront “registered trademark” in the country was also created to launch Luchuan Canal’s exclusive brand that will be applied to peripheral hardware, facilities and products in order to convey the new values of Luchuan Canal. According to Water Resources Bureau, the first wave of projects will involve the branding of manhole covers with the logo, so as to impress tourists with the nostalgic, retro visual appeal of the brand.

Water Resources Bureau suggested that the riverbank of Luchuan Canal during the Japanese Occupation Period was stunning and beautiful, and it meandered through the bustling streets of the Central District just like the Kamo River in Kyoto, Japan. As a result, it has been nicknamed “Little Kyoto”. In order to re-create its former glamor, the city government has implemented the Luchuan Canal corridor project, where projects include dredging, flood prevention box culverts, sewage interception and landscaping are carried out to provide citizens with a waterfront environment that offers tourism and economic benefits and historical significance. The project is slated for completion by spring next year.

In order to enhance the unique charisma of Luchuan Canal, Water Resources Bureau has especially designed a waterfront brand logo for Luchuan Canal inspired by the cultural background of the old town in Central District as well as nostalgic sceneries from the Japanese Occupation Period. In relation to the visual design, the logo features egrets looking at the earth embankments in the distance and walking under the trees, symbolizing the city’s emphasis on striking a balance between urban development and natural ecology, in turn embodying the cultural & creative characteristics of the region.

Water Resources Bureau Director Ting-chang Chou indicated that as the first river waterfront environment with a registered trademark, Luchuan Canal will become the pioneer of contemporary waterfront brands that blends in local tradition with the latest trends. The brand serves to convey a sense of recognition and imagination towards the land among residents and tourists, so that people will visit and revisit Luchuan Canal to create wonderful memories.

The first wave of projects will involve the branding of manhole covers on the surrounding sidewalks with the logo, and a briefing will be conducted subsequently to assist the surrounding stores to make use of the Luchuan Canal brand in creating a thriving local economy. Furthermore, combined with in-depth guided tours, the aim is to promote gourmet food, industry, history and culture in the Central District, in turn revitalizing local developments.

According to Director Chou, Luchuan Canal is about to be endowed with a brand new appearance, apart from marketing the added value of water resources engineering through the waterfront brand, it also brings public works closer to people’s lives and the industries, thereby creating new spotlights in the city. Next spring, everyone is invited to take a stroll at the Luchuan Canal and appreciate Taichung’s picturesque, green waterfront.
