With Taichung City hosting the World Flora Expo next year, the flora expo mascots Leopard Cat Family and Omi Horse were unveiled this year. Life, the first mascot unveiled, participated in numerous activities recently, charming the public with its adorable looks. As a matter of fact, the mascots are supported by a team of agents that take care of all their affairs. The team revealed that the leopard cat dad, mom, sister Love and neighbor Omi Horse will soon make their debut, so everyone is welcome to invite the mascots to attend functions to liven up the atmosphere.
The agent team representing Taichung flora expo mascots consists of 7 staff members from the Information Bureau, Taichung City Government. Albeit preoccupied with routine work, their passion for leopard cats led them to form the agent team voluntarily. Named Love & Life Agency, when the team accepts invitations for their clients to make guest appearances, it will first try to understand the route needed to get to the stage as well as design attractions and themes for the leopard cat family and Omi Horse, treating them like celebrities. In addition, the agency also provides the mascots with chauffeur service, with each member playing multiple crucial roles such as the driver, bodyguard, agent, publicist and photographer.
According to the team, wearing a mascot costume is a very specialized skill that is not as simple as the public may imagine. For instance, the view from inside the costume is extremely narrow, and the movement is much more restricted, and meticulous planning is needed for every maneuver. Furthermore, the mascot wearer must be abundantly experienced to grasp the perfect timing for interacting with children while be fit enough to endure the weight of the costume and high temperatures. Each move must be carefully choreographed by professionals to avoid accident from occurring. As a result, professional theater company performers are hired as mascot wearers.
Unlike conventional mascots that are seen in events, each of the Taichung flora expo mascots has its own character and story that require professional theatrics to highlight their unique personalities.The leopard cat dad is a skillful and outspoken farmer; the leopard cat mom is loving mother and expert pastry chef; older sister Love is an adorable, energetic, strong-willed child with exceptional agility; little brother Life is curious about the world and often charms people with his irresistible cuteness; their neighbor Omi Horse is a friendly, funky character that does not always play by the book.
Life, the earliest debutant, has already attended numerous events, including acting as the One Day Store Manager at a convenience store, where he and other children experienced replenishing stocks, shelving products and cashier duty. He was also appointed “One Day Curator” at the Taichung Comic Arts Festival, experiencing screen printing with the public. He too participated in recording a TV program to promote the achievements of dredging the Liuchuan Canal. Many people fought for the opportunity to take photos with Life.
