Doing housework as a family –Social Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government advocates the concept of shared housework

According to the latest statistics in May from DGBAS, Executive Yuan, career women provides 3.26 hours of unpaid care, 2.7 times more than their husbands (averaging 1.23 hours). Social Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government held the women’s right and gender equality creative promotion press conference today (19th); according to Social Affairs Bureau Director Chien-te Lu, gender equality relies on changing the existing thinking by taking action, thus the “Live together and do housework as a family” campaign serves to foster a happy ambiance at home.

“Doing housework as a family”, Social Affairs Bureau Director Lu stressed the importance of gender equality and the reinforcement thereof in today’s press conference. Besides adjustments and amendments in the country’s legal systems, awareness among individuals and families must also be changed and put into practice. It is hoped that the public will contemplate about the issue of gender relations and create a gender-friendly environment.

In addition, Social Affairs Bureau will also incorporate the concept of gender equality into the 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo by inviting the public to design “Gender Equality Flower Fairy Mascot”. “Ying Ying Mei Dai Zi” stood out from nearly 100 submissions, and it is hoped that she will be used to promote the concept of “doing housework as a family”.

Social Affairs Bureau indicated that cultural & creative produces such as collectable cards will be designed using the image of Gender Equality Flower Fairy, and she will be appointed as Taichung City’s Gender Equality Ambassador to promote the concept in the Greater Taichung Region.
