As the earliest rescue dog organization in Germany, BRH originated from Baden-Württemberg; besides its own training ground, it has 70 squadrons in Germany that have trained over 600 rescue dogs, with 900 dogs currently receiving training. In addition, BRH has participated in at least 500 search and rescue missions domestic and abroad, including the 921 earthquake in Taiwan, making it the oldest rescue dog training institution in Germany.
According to BRH’s Gottert Peter, BRH partook in human search and rescue missions in Taiwan during the 921 earthquake, and a female trapped under a damaged building was detected and successfully rescued. This is an achievement that he is very proud of. After conducting joint-training with Taichung City Search and Rescue Dog, he discovered that it has demonstrated exceptional professionalism and performance, thus he felt that it is s privilege to sign a MOU with Taichung City Fire Bureau, and it is hoped that the collaboration will continue into the future in order to elevate each other’s search and rescue capability.
Furthermore, BRH is studying the possibility of establishing a squadron in INGO Center in Taichung's Wufeng District, because it not only facilitates international rescue dog squad technical exchanges in Taiwan, in case of catastrophes in the Asia region, the squadron will also be able to offer swift humanitarian search and rescue assistance using its search and rescue gears, equipment and platform that have been established in advance.
