Serving tea with traditional cakes and snacks is a lifestyle native to Taichung, and afternoon tea has become one of the important elements of Taichung as a capital of living. The 2nd Taichung Afternoon Tea Festival this year features One Hundred Types of Afternoon Tea. From November to December, over 30 Afternoon Tea Salons, a one-day Vintage Afternoon Tea Marketplace, and the Bosses Sitting Around Salon will be launched to present the diversity of afternoon tea and the depth of the afternoon tea cultural industry in Taichung. Director-General Chen Sheng-shan of Taichung Tourism Bureau welcomes all to explore the charm of afternoon tea in Taichung.

At the press conference of the Taichung Afternoon Tea Festival held this 28th, the Tourism Bureau invited 36 afternoon tea businesses, including Chun Shui Tang and Rose House, and related trade unions to express their support for the event and What’s Play Theatre to interpret the afternoon tea imagination of five consumer groups: young students, bourgeoise working class, romantic lovers, family, and golden men and women, to experience the diversity and richness of one hundred types of tea.

According to the Tourism Bureau, the Taichung Afternoon Tea Life Festival last year started with the Origin of Afternoon Tea in Taichung, emphasizing an afternoon tea lifestyle featuring the creative combination of tea, traditional cakes and snacks, coffee, and desserts. The in-depth afternoon tea salon and marketplace led by five leading brands, such as Chun Shui Tang, attracted 50 businesses to join the event and launched the brand “Vintage Afternoon Tea” to re-shape the classic moments of Taichung’s afternoon tea culture.

The 2nd Taichung Afternoon Tea Life Festival launched this November features One Hundred Types of Afternoon Tea through three theme events: Afternoon Tea Salon, Vintage Afternoon Tea Marketplace, and Bosses Sitting Around Salon to link the depth of Taichung’s afternoon tea cultural industry with the diversity and heritage of afternoon tea in Taichung.

Director-General Chen says, to enhance the global awareness of traditional cakes and snacks of Taichung, the Tourism Bureau began to invite classic brands to revive the afternoon tea in Taichung. The bureau expands the festival scale to demonstrate the variety and diversity of afternoon tea in Taichung. Through continuous international exchange and marketing, the bureau expects to influence the Asian and global beverage markets. Let the world know the good and beauty of this city and explore the afternoon tea culture of Taichung.

In addition, the Tourism Bureau actively expands flight routes and international exchange by signing memorandum of understanding (MOU) for facilitating travel and tourism with major Asian cities and implementing regional thematic travel cooperation, hoping to export the charm of traditional cakes and snacks and the afternoon tea of Taichung to all parts of Asia and further to the international market.

In addition to inviting leading afternoon tea businesses to demonstrate the brand effect, the Taichung Afternoon Tea Life Festival this year implements co-marketing with micro characteristic shops. At over 30 Afternoon Tea Salons between November 17 and December 16, businesses will share the cultural history, professionalism, and living culture of tea, as well as traditional cakes and snacks, and coffee. These businesses will also arrange different DIY activities based on their own characteristics. On December 16 at the Art Museum Parkway, the Vintage Afternoon Tea Market will be held for the public to enjoy outdoor afternoon tea activities. The Bosses Sitting Around Salon on December 21 is a conference for afternoon tea business leaders to dialogue with youth entrepreneurs and students to stimulate innovation for afternoon tea.
