60 enterprises join forces to support Corporate Volunteer Day – Deputy Mayor Chang pledges his support

60家企業揪團響應企業志工日 張副市長率領宣誓
Entering its 6th year running, 2017 Greater Taichung Corporate Volunteer Day kicked off on December 2. With participation from 60 enterprises, 43 social welfare organizations and government agencies, more than 800 corporate representatives became one-day volunteers, taking children, visually impaired people and senior citizens on outings or participating in activities. They also joined other initiatives such as community greenification, mountain and river cleaning etc. Together, they pledged to support the event at Taichung Civic Square, and Deputy Mayor Kuang-yao Chang also attended the function to show his support for the volunteers and thank them for their contributions.

Co-hosted by Social Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government and Topkey Foundation, 2017 Greater Taichung Corporate Volunteer Day kicked off today, and the number of enterprises increased from 20 to 60 this year, where over 800 corporate volunteers and 43 social welfare organizations came together to offer diverse services, including taking children to visit the National Museum of Natural Science, taking people with visual impairment to ride tandem bicycles and row boats, as well as assisting senior citizens to make potted plants using succulents and play table games. Other activities include community greenification, mountain and river cleaning.

Deputy Mayor Chang and Social Affairs Bureau Director Chien-te Lu both attended the function to present certificates of appreciation to the volunteers. According to Deputy Mayor Chang, social enterprises not only focus on seeking profits but also amplify the benefits of social investment, therefor for the Corporate Volunteer Day, it is hoped that business owners will lead their employees and citizens to engage in volunteer services, regardless of age and gender. The aim is to encourage more businesses to support the campaign, thereby making Taichung a better, more beautiful city.
