To welcome the arrival of 2018, Taichung City Government organized new year countdown parties in the Stadium of National Taiwan University of Sports and Park Lot 2 of Lihpao Resort as well as works with Tourism Bureau of Ministry of Transportation and Communications for new year countdown events in Lishan and Guguan. The three-time Golden Melody Awards nominee Quarterback, Michelle Pan, and indigenous dance troupe will be invited to Guguan and local bands such as RayGuand, Police Band, and GUTS will sing in Lishan to enable visitors to take a part in Taiwan’s highest new year countdown party, listening to the folk songs and rock, enjoying the hot spring to welcome the coming of the year. On new year’s day, events such as “Watching Sunrise by Tian Pool, Fushou Mountain” and “Taiwan’s highest New Year Flag Raising” welcome everyone to participate.

On the 14th, the Tourism Bureau of Taichung City organized the “2018 New Year Countdown Party: Original Sound Lishan and Vigorous Guguan.” According to Director-General of Tourism Bureau, Chen Sheng-shan stated that many local indigenous dance troupes will be invited to the event in Guguan. In addition, performances given by the indigenous youth band such as Honggu Band, Zhiji Duet and Wingle Chen, a member of the idle group MODS. In Lishan on the afternoon 31st, “Lishan Karaoke Contest” will be launched first and the top three winners will be invited to sing in the new year countdown party.

Director-General Chen also said that on the first day of 2018, in Mountain Fushou Farm, the “Welcoming Event for New Year Sunrise” will invite Li Siang Drum Troupe to perform by Tian Pool, 2,580 meters high above sea level to accompany the audience to welcome the first sunrise of the new year. Participants will have the chance to win the limited edition “OhBear” scarfs; in the square in front of Lishan Guest House, there will be the “Taiwan’s Highest Flag Raising Ceremony” where participants will have the chance to enter lucky draws for limited edition “OhBear” backpacks.

On the 31st and the New Year Day, Guguan Visitor Center will provide free shuttle bus services heading to indigenous tribes. Visitors staying in Guguan hot spring hotels between December 30, 2017 and January 1, 2018 can enjoy free shuttle bus services to Sunghe Village with accommodation receipts or relevant proofs. A free wristband DIY activity is available for visitors to get to know about tribe culture better. Seats are limited and please register now.

Director-General Chen also emphasized that in order to promote 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition, this year’s new year countdown events incorporate with the expo’s cosmos, “leopard cat” to produce lighting decoration and plates in hotels and along streets of Lishan and Guguan. Visitors are encouraged to take photos and join together to promote the Expo.

According to Tri-mountain National Scenic Area Administration of Ministry of Transportation and Communications, over the past couple of years, Tourism Bureau of Taichung City Government has worked hand in hand with the Administration to organized various events to promote local tourism. They invested in tourism infrastructure development to build a more comprehensive tourism environment and services as well as a tourist-friendly space in Guguan and Lishan with the aim to attract more visitors.
