  • Date: 2018-02-14
  • Issued by: Police Department

Jifeng Police Station, Wufeng Precinct, Taichung City Police Department was informed by the Fire Bureau at around 19:00, April 4th, 2016 of a citizen named Chang who hiked the Camphor Forest Trail in the mountainous area of Tonglin Village, Wufeng District, Taichung City alone. After reaching the summit of the trail, which is at the intersection of Taichung City and Nantou County, Mr. Chang could not hike down the mountain due to darkness. Wufeng Precinct dispatched more than 20 rescue members from Tonglin Neighborhood Community Security Patrol Team and other rescue teams, which were equipped with rescue equipment (such as ropes, lighting etc. ), to search along the hiking trail to rescue Mr. Zhang.

After searching, the rescue team received Mr. Chang’s cellphone signal from the summit and notified him to stay at the current location and not to shut down the cellphone. At around 21:00, the rescuers found him safe and sound at the summit intersection. Mr. Chang apologized for the trouble he has caused due to his carelessness and expressed great gratitude to the rescue team. He promised not to hike alone again, and went to Tonglin Futian Temple later on to thank the gods for blessing him.

Wufeng Precinct advocated to the public that when encountering unexpected accidents, it’s important to stay calm and stay in evident and recognizable locations, move to locations with good signal if you have a mobile phone, and do not panic or run around.
