Regulations for Inbound Passengers Buying Drugs from Abroad

  • Date: 2018-02-14
  • Issued by: Health Bureau

If you bring drugs on your home-coming trip from abroad, make sure to meet the requirements of "Limits on Pharmaceutical Drugs Intended for Personal Use Carried by Inbound Passengers.” If the table has the drugs listed, you can bring in the amounts of drugs as listed. For the “non-prescription drugs," you can bring in 6 kinds at 2 bottles (boxes) per kind. Exceeding the upper limit, you should apply for an import permit from the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare before you return to the home country. For"prescription drugs," you can bring in the amount of drugs as prescribed on the medical certificate issued by the medical institution. If you want to send the drugs by mail or express delivery, you should apply for an import permit from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in advance in accordance with the "Administrative Measures for Drug Samples and Giveaways."
