The 2020 Sea of Flowers in Xinshe and the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival will be grandly launched between November 14th and December 6th. In its 10th Anniversary, the Festival features a large flower maze incorporated with the theme "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and according to Deputy Mayor Bruce Linghu, this Festival occupies a land area of 1.8 hectares and uses 250,000 flowers of 10 species to greet its visitors.
The Taichung City Government today (the 9th) held the "Press Conference for the 2020 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival" at the Civic Building on Taiwan Boulevard and Deputy Mayor Linghu said this year, respectively, marks the 15th and 10th Anniversary of Sea Flowers in Xinshe and the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival which features the highlighted 10-meter long Heart of Courage as the re-presentation of Alice's brave fight with the Queen's porker soldiers. In the exhibition area, there are other characters in the story including the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit in a rush with a clock necklace and the Mad Hatter.
According to Deputy Mayor Linghu, this Festival remains open over four weekends, totaling 23 days and about 2 million visitors are expected. The Taichung City Government also planned two transit routes from Fengyuan and Taiyuan and on weekends, two additional lines of free shuttle bus services, Dongshi and Sakura Flower Lane, will be offered. Visitors are advised to ride on the Taiwan Railway to Fengyuan Station for the free shuttle bus transit or park their cars in Jingpuku or the Zhongxingling Parking Lot of Taiyuan or Dakeng and then ride on the free shuttle buses to the exhibition area.
Director General of the Tourism and Travel Bureau of the Taichung City Government, Lin Shiau-chi, said in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the innovative curation model was launched to incorporate with virtual reality technology. After downloading the "Great Fun in Taichung app," users can view flowers online without limitations of space or time.
The Bureau also reminded the public to fight against the pandemic; visitors must wear a face mask and have their body temperature checked when entering the exhibition area of the Festival. No admission will be given to visitors with a fever or without a face mask. For hot photo sites, there will be marks to remind people of social distancing for easy and comfortable visits. Additionally, before November 14, the venue is still under construction and not open for public visits. Do not come to the venue during this period. Today's press conference started with the performance of singer NoVa Yeh's "Flower Heart" followed by the dancing performance of children from a kindergarten dressed as characters in Alice Adventures in Wonderland to jointly declare the launching of the event.
