Tourism and Travel Bureau, Taichung City Government has organized「2018 Daan Sand Sculpture and Music Festival」to be kicked off from 2nd June to 18th June. A breakthrough creative technique is applied this year to differentiate from the traditional single-based sand sculpture technique. The new「collective-based co-construction technique」 is based on the theme of「Daan Sand Sculpture Planet」 and combines with the Taichung Flora Expo concept of「Explore Flora GNP」to generate the artworks. Besides, there will be live band performances and sand sculpture DIY activities for the children and their parents to enjoy together. All the people are welcome to visit Daan to enjoy the exhibition of sand sculptures and music to immerse in the beauty of seaside.

Tourism and Travel Bureau, Taichung City Government conducted the press conference of Daan Sand Sculpture and Music Festival today(30th) in the Daan Park. There were Taichung Flora Expo mascot, Love and Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications mascot,「Oh Bear」, on site to dance along the delightful melody of saxophone. And the representative of Farmers’ Association of Daan District, the representative of Vitalon Welfare Foundation and the representative of LihPao Land were there to celebrate to make the event lively.

Director of Tourism and Travel Bureau Shen-shan Chen indicated, this is the 8th year of the event with good recognitions. And it’s been one of the「2018 Formosa Summer Festival」activity series by Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications for the first time. It reflects the importance of Taichung Daan Sand Sculpture and Music Festival which has jumped to the same famous level of Hohaiyan Rock Festival in New Taipei City and Spring Scream at Kenting. Now it becomes a good place for the people in central area to visit during the summer time.

Director Chen said, the Daan Sand Sculpture and Music Festival of this year will last for 17 days with great plans everyday. There’s no the traditional single-based sand sculpture artwork with size limitation but the new「collective-based co-construction technique」has been applied to all the artworks for exhibition to maximize your vision and build up the sand sculptures of art with different levels and gorgeous appearances.

The theme of this year has infused with the spirit of 2018 Taichung Flora Expo to include 16 themes and 20 sand sculpture artworks to connect the whole idea.「Sound of Blooming」, 「Exploring Flora GNP」, 「True essence of nature」, 「Sustainable harmony」, 「Waterfront Flower Town」 and「Rice fragrance in Waipu」 sand sculptures are trying to deliver the local features of seaside and the spirit of Flora Expo. We’d like to invite everyone to listen to the voice of nature.

In addition to the fabulous sand sculptures, the old name of Daan, screw harbor, was applied by the Taichung City Government to hold the band competition of 「Rock screw harbor」. And the final competition of the bands from everywhere will be held in the opening party. The past and present Daan will be shown to the audience through the musical competition which has provided the music maker or the young people a stage to show themselves.

Also, the most popular singers like Tai-yen Yu, Ming-der Lee, Duet Gigi and How-yi Lin etc. will be invited to give the performances on 2nd June to bring everyone back to the School campus song era. The local cuisine parties of Taichung are planned in addition to the sand sculpture DIY activities for children and parents, sand sculpture guided tours, cosplay photography day and the day of children-parents swimming suits etc. during the weekend and holidays。

To make the people to leave for there conveniently, free shuttle buses at Dajia station will be scheduled by Tourism and Travel Bureau to send the people to join in the opening party in the evening of 2nd June. Either by buses, trains or driving, people can easily follow the shuttle arrangement to go to the event venue, please be encouraged to use the services as appropriate.
