Local Light Rail

Taiwan has a modern railway system that provides frequent and convenient passenger service between all major cities
on the island. As of December 2002, Taiwans railway network had a total of 1,097 kilometers of track.
Public railways in Taiwan are operated by the Taiwan Railway Administration 臺灣鐵路管理局.
In 2002, a total of 175.34 million passengers and 12.15 million tons of freight (0.99 billion ton-kilometers) were
transported on Taiwan's railway system.

Taiwan's rail service is clean, prompt and services are user friendly.
There are four rail lines providing island wide coverage.
1.  Western Railway
2.  HuaLien-Taitung Line
3.  North Link Line
4.  Yilan Line

There are for classes of train.  They are listed from fastest to slowest.
1.  Zi Qiang Class (Tsi-chiang class) 自強號
2.  Fu Xing Class  (Fu-shing class) 復興號
3.  Ju Guang Class (Jue-kuan class) 莒光號
4.  Dian Che (Electric Train) 電車

It is increasingly difficult to get the train tickets during the holidays.  Therefore it is recommended that you
reserve your tickets up to 14 days in advance.  See website below for ticketing information.
