Labor Safety and Health Division to be Set up Soon

  • Date: 2018-02-15
  • Issued by: Environmental Protection Bureau

Paying great attention to safety and health of the cleaning staff, Hung Cheng-chung (洪正中), Director-general of Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB), has placed the setup of Labor Safety and Health Division as a priority task since he took office and has instructed the relevant units to amend the organizational rules as soon as possible.

Even without such a dedicated safety and health management unit, the EPB has still been actively promoting the related businesses. It has already drafted and implemented the safety and health management regulations, the automatic check plans, the incident reporting and safety management system and the safety and health codes of practice. In addition, the EPB pays even more attention to professional safety and health training for its management cadres. For example, the EPB has already arranged class-A occupational safety and health training programs for its cleaning team captains and leaders, among whom 78 have already completed the training courses. Moreover, class-B occupational safety and health training programs are arranged for supervisors of any cleaning team with over 100 members according to the laws. In addition, the 3-ton mobile crane operation training and first-aid training programs are arranged every year. It is intended to start all the safety and health training from the grass-roots levels, so that the workplaces will become even more secure.

Director-general Hung said, “The EPB has already amended and published its organizational regulations. It is expected that the Labor Safety and Health Division can be set up before the end of 2015 and we will have a more sophisticated safety and health management system with some breakthroughs in the future. All in all, we hope to give our cleaning staff a safety and health management system that will fit their needs.”
