「International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives-Local Governments for Sustainability」(ICLEI) world congress was held every three years, the Congress was held in Montreal, Canada this year. The chief executive officer of low carbon city promotion office Yuei-bin Wang and the chief executive officer of INGO Center Se-chi Tung, Taichung City Government, left for there to attend the congress and share the successful experiences of the City Government on promoting low carbon city to the world. Meanwhile, they’re inviting the Mayor of Bonn, Germany, and Chairman of the ICLEI Congress, Ashok Sridharan and Secretary-General Gino Van Begin to sign the「Taichung Declaration」 and every city representative to come to participate in the Flora Expo festival.

The chief executive officer of low carbon office Yuei-bin Wang said, ICLEI is an international organization of many local governments to dedicate to the local low carbon promotion, sustainability and city development. Now there have been more than 1,000 local government with the membership, Taichung is one of them.

Recently, the City Government has aggressively promoted Taichung to be a low carbon city and accumulated some achievements, including gas replacement of oil burning boiler subsidiary to reduce the carbon emission, 10 km free of city bus, combined public transportation system, MR.B&B and reduce the carbon emission of individual transportation vehicles.

Besides, Luchuan renovation has not only built the new water friendly landmark but also rendered the city toughness; in order to improve the air pollution issues, we’ve invited many experts and environmental protection groups to form the air pollution reducing team to promote 86 approaches of air pollution improvement and prevention. The City Government and citizens are all together to improve the air quality effectively.

As Taichung Flora Expo will be open on 3rd November greatly and the theme of the exhibitions is「Exploring GNP - Rediscover Green, Nature and People」, which has granted GNP a whole new meaning to share a brand new concept with the world, based on the design concept of 「no destruction but optimization」to plan for low carbon and sustainability which aligns with the vision of ICLEI organization.

Mayor of Bonn, Germany, and Chairman of the ICLEI Congress, Ashok Sridharan and Secretary-General Gino Van Begin recognized the proposal of the Flora Expo declaration well and agreed the belief and value of green production, natural ecology and people cultural lives are quite aligned with the global low carbon sustainability concept so they’re looking forward to Taichung Flora Expo and would like to provide their fully supports.

Also, the members of the representative group were continuously introducing and promoting the actual performances of Taichung on low carbon activities during the period of the ICLEI world congress. They have invited all the representatives of the cities to join in the Flora Expo event and sign the「Taichung Declaration」. With this opportunity, Taichung will be seen by the world and the people can enjoy the attractiveness of Flora Expo.
