Taichung City Government has promoted the international traveling model of「inbound and outbound flights through Taichung」. The Taichung International Airport is highly promoted as the operational center of budget airlines. After the daily direct flight between Narita International Airport in Tokyo and Taichung starting from 14th June, VietJet Air has started 5 scheduled direct flights between Taichung and Hanoi every week from today(22nd). The officer of Tourism and Travel Bureau of the City Government said this new flight of VietJet Air is the second scheduled flight between Taichung and Hanoi so the tourists may have more flight options now.

140 passengers were taking the very first flight today, including 33 journalists or managers from tourism and airline industries. Tourism and Travel Bureau has arrange them to visit many important sightseeing spots in Taichung and let them enjoy the beauty of Taichung.

Direct Chen said, there are many manufacturing companies in central Taiwan. As they are trying to expand their business coverage overseas, more and more companies move to Hanoi and HoChiMinh city to settle their plants in Vietnam. There are VietJet Air and Mandarin Airlines fly between Taichung and Vietnam, either flights to Hanoi or HoChiMinh city are all available with the service of 48 scheduled flights a week. These flights are staggered by these two airlines to provide the convenience and flexibility for the tourists.

The officer of the Tourism and Travel Bureau has indicated, Taichung owns the advantages of having two ports so the City Government has integrated the tremendous tourism resources of 6.7 million populations from 7 cities and counties to facilitate the tourism model of taking the inbound and outbound international flights through Taichung. The targeted international flights are mainly those taking 3 to 5 hours of flights and have brought the doubled international visitor counts to Taichung successfully. As the number of the visitors is growing dramatically, the total passenger counts have achieved 2.39 million in 2017.

In order to upgrade the international tourism development in Taichung, the Tourism and Travel Bureau has leverage the strategies like flight incubation, budget flight operational center development, one day living circle around Asia, flights between capital cities and multiple stops flight to promote the international traveling model as「inbound and outbound flights through Taichung」to make Taichung connecting to the Asian cities. During these 3 years, we’ve successfully developed 18 new destinations by flights; in addition to the flight to Hanoi by VietJet Air this year, we’ve had flights to Sanya, Tianjin, and Tokyo. We’ll develop the flight to Phnom Penh in the future and continue to make Taichung fly globally.
