The “Six Counties and Cities of Central Taiwan’s Tourism Development Planning Association Discussion Forum” took place at Taichung City’s Art City on July 4th, 2005. The discussion focused on how central Taiwan’s major counties and cities will try to attract tourists from Mainland China to central Taiwan , when Mainland Chinese people are allowed to come to Taiwan for tourism purposes. After a series of discussions, all six counties and cities agreed that they would have a “joint tactic”, with Taichung city as the main window, integrating all the tourism resources of various counties and cities. A complete travel schedule will be created, and all counties and cities will send various industry representatives to take part in this joint plan in order to promote tourism in central Taiwan together. During the forum, Taichung city Mayor Mr. Jason Hu explained the main purpose of the discussion forum. The main purpose of the forum is to discuss how central Taiwan will integrate all their tourism resources in order to attract more visitors when Mainland Chinese people are allowed to come and visit Taiwan. Mayor Hu expressed that Taichung city will be glad to act as the window for other counties and cities in promoting tourism for central Taiwan. If all the cultural and tourism resources can be integrated successfully and promoted in a unified manner, it will most certainly create a huge stir, just like when Mayor Hu visited Beijing, he promoted Taichung city’s Sun Cakes in Mainland China and they were well liked by the people there.
