Deputy Mayor Hsiao presents commemoration flag to the Chinese Taipei Paralympics Table Tennis Team (2006-05-30)

The Chinese Taipei Paralympics Table Tennis Team (made up of members of the Vitalon Paralympics Table Tennis Team of the Taichung Welfare Promotion Association for the Disabled) flew to Europe on May 30, to take part in the 2006 Slovak World Paralympics Table Tennis Championships. Taichung City Deputy Mayor Hsiao represented Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu in presenting the team with a special commemoration flag for the occasion.

The 2006 Slovak World Paralympics Table Tennis Championships will be held at the city of Piestany, near the Slovak capital of Bratislava. The games will last for four days, commencing on May 31, with over 114 athletes in wheelchairs competing, representing a total of 21 countries. The team representing Taiwan this time is one of the strongest; and they are aiming to win several medals this time. The team consists of 11 athletes, two national level volunteer coaches and three volunteers. Honorary team members, Councilor Chen You Jiang and Councilor Yan Ying Nan were both unable to lead the team on this trip due to other public businesses, but they were still very involved with the teams' organization and fund raising affairs. Councilor Chen and Councilor Yan personally led the team to the City Government to receive the commemoration flag from Deputy Mayor Hsiao, who also wished them all the best.
