On June 4, Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu took part in the 2006 World No Tobacco Day, encouraging citizens not to smoke. During the event, Mayor Hu and Hong Kong pop idol group Twins, the Director General of the Public Health Bureau and others put out a model of a cigarette, and pledged their determination to discourage smoking. It is also hoped that citizens and young people would also refuse smoking, and lead healthy happy lives.

Organized by the Public Health Bureau of Taichung City, the 2006 World No Tobacco Day commenced at 1pm on June 4 at the ground floor plaza of Kuang San Sogo Department store. In an effort to let citizens learn more about the importance of not smoking, activities that day included some health and fitness tests, which citizens can find out about the influences that smoking has on our lungs. There was also a fun question and answer game to help promote this smoke free campaign.
