2006 June 20

The Taichung District Prosecutor's Office met with related officials on June 20 to tear down the illegal business venues of "Chang-ching's Arcade" (located at 293, XiangShang Rd., sec. 1), "Ichiban's Billiard Plaza" (first and second floors of 49, ChongDe Rd., sec. 2), and "Lucky Star Arcades" (at 49, ChongDe Rd., sec. 2, 1F). The owners of these establishments illegally carried out additional construction that did not meet government standards for construction and facilities. According to construction laws, such infractions result in power and water suspensions, and the demolition of interior decorations and exterior business signs. To ensure the safety of citizens, these businesses have been firmly banned from re-opening.

The "Ichiban Billiard Plaza" was previously prosecuted for illegal gambling. After the court revoked its business license, however, it continued business as usual and made further changes to the building's construction. Although the owner had been warned by the police to make improvements, this was ignored and the business further affected citizens by endangering public safety. Consequently, police reported this business as first-priority case for action. By order of the city government in accordance with construction laws, it had its utilities cut off, with interior decorations and exterior signs demolished.
