Taichung city government held "International Communal Channel and Broad Band Channel Technology" seminar to celebrate its victory on Taichung Broad Band installing program. At the opening ceremony, Taichung vice mayor Shiao Jia Chi says that Taichung launched its Broad Band channel program way before 1999, when the government started. By June this year, 49 KM will be completed. The Taichung government is planning to reach 100 KM by the end of this year.

The vice mayor Shiao also says that not only will the Broadband Program improve the city outlook, it'll also help Executive Yuan carry out M Taiwan plan. Furthermore, the citizens can enjoy fast and convenient e-life style, which will bring Taichung to an international level, hence, a metropolitan city.

The Bureau of Development, the sponsor of this seminar, says that Taichung was the first city commencing Broad Band program. Through this seminar, other cities and counties can apply Taichung's expertise to speed up their programs.

The Bureau of Development invites city and county governments as well as fixed network companies to this seminar to discuss broadband setting related technologies, experience and the developing technology of overseas communal channels. The seminar will also explore the possibility of connecting broadband channels and communal channels.
