So far, there are 198 victims out of 257 rabies cases. The rabies case in Yunnan Mo Ding County has resulted slaughtering 50,000 dogs. However, the situation hasn't been improved and which puts Taiwan prone to the disease. Animal Prevention Bureau has called on the public not to abandon cats or dogs and should have them vaccinated with rabies shots.
According to Animal Epidemic Prevention Rules, the owners of cats and dogs can faced NT$10,000 to NT$50,000 fine if they fail to do so. As there hasn't been a rabies case for the past 40 years, the public tends to take it lightly. As a result, taking rabies vaccination should be the most effective and direct way to avoid rabies from happening.
Animal Epidemic Prevention Bureau also advised the owners, who have failed to give rabies vaccinations to their dogs or cats for more than a year, to have the shots done to ensure their cats and dogs' health and keep the rabies from coming into Taiwan. It is believed that can provide more protection to our health.
