City agrees to planning of iBus Stops (Smart Bus Stops) proposed by City Councilor Tang, Guo-tai (2006-11-22)

On Nov 21st , City Councilor Tang, Guo-tai pointed out during the general interpellation of city council session that cities and counties of Taipei, Kaoshiung, Tainan, Taoyuan and Hsinchu have installed or plan to install iBus Stops. To better serve the people who commute on buses, he asked the City to work rapidly on plans of installing iBus Stops, so commuters know when the bus will come instead of waiting for a long time. Director for Transportation Bureau, Chi, Wun-chung stated that the City will plan accordingly.

Councilor Tang said that so far, City of Taichung has installed 102 units of the new-and-improved bus stops, and also computerized the bus fare system with “E Card”.

He also stated that with technology, the iBus Stops installed by the five cities and counties, incorporate GPS tracking system to display arrival time for the incoming bus running across a LED billboard.

Therefore, he would like the City to add LED billboards to the new bus stops that display names of the bus stops and bus arrival time. He would also like the City to request Renyo Bus Company and Taichung Bus Company to install in-bus automatic arrival announcement system, and LED display of bus routes, etc.

Director for Transportation Bureau, Chi, Wun-chung replied that he will plan accordingly.
