Lai, Ming-tsung, Owner of Jishan Gate, Donates Historical Building(2006-11-27)

On November 27th, Deputy Mayor, James Chia-chi Hsiao, presented Lai, Ming-tsung, an award of merit in Chungcheng Hall for his donation of Jishan Gate. Jishan Gate is a city-certified historical building in Taichung.

Jishan Gate is located at 163 Section 1 Xing-an Road Beitun District. Built in 1924, the construction took 4 years. The gate was built with bricks with a roof that has a Xie-shan ridge. (a type of traditional Chinese architecture) The walls were designed to be load bearing. It has the silhouette of tradition architecture and a construction method fashionable during the Japanese Colonial era. It is a rare gem in the design of domestic architecture in Central Taiwan.

Lai, Ming-tsung is now 55 years old. Graduated from National Cheng Kung University with a mechanical engineering degree, he is running Xinyi Art Printing Co. Ltd. He’s very involved in local charity work, and was a recipient of the Good Samaritan award in Beitun District.

In addition, the Neighborhood Watch Groups from Laixing Village of North District and Gouqian Village of Nantun District, represented the City in a national competition and both were given the grade of excellence, and received the rewards from the Director-general of National Police Agency himself. Beitun District Office, Nantun District Office, and Xitun District office were ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for this year’s IT Affairs Training. After receiving grade of excellence from Fair Trade Commission, Executive Yuan for implementing Fair Trade Policies in 2005, Economic Affairs Bureau has been promoting the implementation of Merchandise Labeling Policies in the same year, which received grade of excellence from Ministry of Economic Affairs. On behalf of Mayor Hu, Deputy Mayor James Chia-chi Hsiao presented awards for both achievements.
