The 2010 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival opened on August 21st in the Taichung Citizen Square and Jingguo Boulevard. The festival will last 9 days and end on August 29th. Thousands of people joined the opening concert. As the “Happiness Ambassadors” of the festival, Jason Hu and Madame Hu dressed in flower print shirts to attend the opening concert.

Jason Hu told the audience that it’s the first flower carpet festival, and therefore he has to take the most beautiful flower��"his wife��" with him. Hu and Madame Hu also blessed all of the citizens of Taichung to be happy every day.

Hu said that 8 and half years ago, when he decided to run for the office as the mayor of Taichung City, two thirds of the grass area in the Citizen Square was almost dead. It was like a desert. He made a wish to make the grass live again if he was elected. Through the hard work of Chung Hsing University in the past 2 years, the grass is now alive again. Therefore, he has prohibited walking dogs, playing baseball and political activities on the grass. He said that after Hotel ONE opens, Chingmei Eslite Book Store will have the most beautiful view in the world.

Hu told the audience that the area of Citizen Square was equal to 54 basketball courts. He said that the flower carpet was about the size of 38 basketball courts, with 300,000 pots of flowers offered by the Taichung City Government and 150,000 flower pots sponsored by CMP Group. All of the 450,000 pots of flowers decorate the city and provide a healthier and more pleasant environment, and make a better city.
